Un estudio elaborado a petición de la Comisión de Mercado Interior y Protección del Consumidor del Parlamento Europeo muestra que las autoridades de vigilancia del mercado siguen teniendo dificultades para controlar y hacer cumplir eficazmente las ventas online. Algunas autoridades hicieron hincapié en la necesidad de contar con nuevas herramientas y medidas jurídicas para mejorar la prevención de los productos no conformes en las plataformas mundiales de comercio electrónico.

Toy  Safety Regulation: latest updates 

The European Parliament (EP) and the Member States have started working on the revision of the Toy Safety Regulation (TSR) which the Commission published on 28 July.

The EP has made its first official appointment: the Romanian MEP Vlad Botos will lead the negotiations for the liberal parties. The EP will organise a Public Hearing on the TSR on 19 September in the afternoon in Brussels. TIE will be one of the speakers. The hearing will be webstreamed.

Member States are expected to have a first exchange with the European Commission later this month.

Consumer associations call  for full bans of bisphenols 

European consumer groups tested 121 children's articles and claim that 60 percent of them contained or released bisphenols. This included bisphenol A (BPA), but also F and S (which are not specifically regulated in toys and could negatively impact children’s hormonal system according to the consumer groups). In response, some companies argued that the presence is well below the safe limit and criticise the use of outdated test methods.

Member States agree to ban unsupported environmental claims

 Member States adopted this week their position on the proposed directive to empower consumers for the green transition published by the European Commission early last year.  

 Main changes to the Commission proposal include:

TIE flags concerns with France’s reporting requirements for chemicals in products 

TIE expressed concerns regarding the French ‘Decree on the identification of dangerous substances in waste-generating products’ via the TRIS platform. The country-specific reporting requirements for chemicals in products would deviate from the norm in the EU. TIE stressed that if every Member State had its own reporting or labelling requirements, it would be unworkable for companies that sell products across the EU. Also, it would be confusing for all stakeholders if a specific substance was considered more dangerous in an EU Member State than in the others.
